FORT ALBERT APARTMENTS
ISLE OF WIGHT

Our scheme for this site adjacent to the Grade II listed Fort Albert comprises eleven luxury apartments arranged across three attached buildings.  Each apartment is double aspect - with living spaces running the full depth of the building - so that sea views and daylight are maximised.  A ground floor car park allows living accommodation to be lifted above the flood plain.

The seaward elevations take their cue from those of the fort.  The stone and render walls are simple, robust and unadorned.  Two towers draw on the idea of fortification, whilst providing rooftop pavilions.  Window opening sizes increase with storey height, culminating in the heavily glazed penthouses topped with zinc roofs.

Similarly the landward elevations follow the greater degree of articulation found in those of the listed building. Large windows and terraces - which are shielded from the prevailing south westerly wind by the fort - provide views of Colwell Bay and take advantage of the southerly aspect.
